Somebody’s whole morning got better because the cashier was nice. Don’t call small jobs small.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
The jobs with the lowest status are often the ones with the most contact. A person at a register meets hundreds of people in a day, each having their own invisible morning, and the tone of a ten-second exchange genuinely changes some of them. That influence is not on any job description. It is larger than most roles people respect more.
If you work a job like that, take the ten seconds seriously. And if you are on the other side of the counter, treat the person there as someone whose day you are briefly part of.
Has a cashier or clerk improved your day lately?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
