Lots of people found their thing at thirty, forty or later. The clock in your head is louder than the real one.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The urgency you feel is manufactured and badly calibrated. Plenty of lives turn on something that started well after the age you now think of as late, and your deadlines were mostly absorbed from school, where everything does run on a schedule. Life after that has far fewer fixed dates than your head suggests. The noise is real and the deadline mostly is not.

Put a number on the deadline you think you are facing and then try to find out who enforces it. Usually nobody does. Then pick what you would start this month if you believed you had thirty years.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What deadline have you invented for yourself with no basis?
