Meaning can live in a lab, a kitchen, a garage or a stage. It depends less on the place than on the care.

Settings get ranked long before anybody asks what is happening inside them, so a lab sounds serious and a kitchen sounds like nothing. The ranking does not survive contact with real people. What makes work matter is the attention paid to it, and attention is portable. It has very little to do with the room.

Watch somebody who is excellent at something you had written off as unimpressive: a cook, a mechanic, a driver. Then find the one place in your own week where you are allowed to do something properly instead of quickly.
