People used to wait weeks for a letter and read it ten times. Try reading one message from someone you love like that.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attention follows scarcity. A letter that took three weeks to arrive got read standing in the doorway, then again that night, then kept in a drawer, because it was the only contact available. Messages now arrive constantly and get half a second each, which has nothing to do with the care behind them. The same words, delivered cheaply, get treated as cheap.

Take one message from somebody who loves you and read it properly, twice, as though it travelled a long way. Then write one back that you would be glad to have kept in a drawer.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose message have you skimmed that deserved real attention?
