REFLECTION
Loyalty to a place or a family does not require pretending it was better than it was. Polishing the story takes constant energy, it is easily disproved, and it quietly tells you the truth was not good enough to defend. Honest accounts hold up better, because the good parts become believable precisely when you have not hidden the rest.
Tell one story about home this week accurately, including the awkward part. You may find it more interesting than the tidy version, and that people trust the rest of what you say afterwards.
