The real captain isn’t the loudest player. It’s the one still talking to the bench while they’re losing.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Anyone can lead a team that is winning. The job only becomes visible at two down with ten minutes left, when the easy thing is to go quiet, sulk, or shout at whoever made the error. Still organising, still encouraging the player about to come on: that is the whole job, and it belongs to whoever chooses to do it.

Pick the next bad patch, in a game or a group project, and be the person who keeps talking. Say something useful to the quietest member. You do not need the armband, and people will notice without you mentioning it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who keeps talking to your team when things go badly?

Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
