Sometimes the person you owe an apology to is the version of you that you kept insulting.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Apologies usually point outward. There is a quieter debt that builds up from years of calling yourself stupid after every mistake, useless after every loss, unlovable after every rejection. None of that was accurate and all of it was said with real force by somebody whose opinion you cannot avoid. The younger version of you took it at face value.

You do not have to make a ceremony of this. Try, once, writing down what you have been saying to yourself and then writing what was actually true. Then pick the harshest phrase you use and stop using it for a week.
