Being bad at something new in front of your friends is a power move most people are too scared to make.

People protect themselves by sticking to what they already do well, which is why a beginner in public is such a rare sight. Letting your friends watch you fumble says you care more about getting good than about looking good, and that is a kind of confidence nobody can argue with. It also makes you much harder to embarrass later.
Pick something you are plainly bad at and do it where they can see: a new sport, a language, singing, a first go at skating. Say up front that you are new, then keep going. Watch how fast the teasing turns into somebody asking to join.
What would you try if your friends were definitely watching you fail?
