Give credit when someone else had the idea. People remember who shared the spotlight.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attention gets remembered for a long time in both directions. Years later people can tell you exactly who named them in front of a teacher and exactly who let a room assume the work was theirs alone. The second kind of memory costs far more than the credit ever would have.

When something you were part of gets praised this week, say who did which piece before anybody asks. Do it in front of whoever is handing out the praise rather than privately afterwards. One sentence changes who wants to work with you next term.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who shared credit with you, and do you still think well of them?
