A lot of the fear of failing is really fear of being seen failing. Try failing privately first.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Separate the two and the fear usually shrinks. Being bad at something on your own is mildly frustrating and quickly fixable; being bad at it while people watch feels like a verdict on your worth. Most of the dread is attached to the audience rather than to the activity.
Give yourself a few weeks of private incompetence before anybody sees: the instrument in your room, the drills in the driveway, the writing nobody reads. Let it be genuinely bad there. By the time it goes public you will be past the worst of it and you will know the thing is learnable.
What could you attempt badly where nobody would ever find out?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
