Anyone who judges you by the price of your shoes is telling you exactly what they value. Believe them.

A comment like that is an unintentional disclosure. In the second it takes to look down and decide something about you, a person has handed over their entire ranking system, and that system will apply to everything else they meet. Nothing about you has been revealed at all.

Take the information rather than the insult, and keep it: this is somebody whose respect is bought rather than earned. Spend your money on what you actually want instead of on their approval, which has no bottom. Notice how it felt, too, and do not run the same calculation on anybody else.
