If you only feel grateful when things go right, it isn’t gratitude. It’s relief.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Relief is a response to a result, and it arrives automatically when the test goes well or the injury turns out to be nothing. Gratitude is wider: it notices the ordinary things already in place before any result came in, and those do not change with the outcome. One is a reaction and the other is a practice.

Name two things this week on a day when nothing in particular went your way. Keep them specific and plain: a lift, a meal, a friend who answered, hot water. Doing it on a flat day is the whole exercise, since that is the only way to tell them apart.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Can you name something good about a day that went wrong?
