Taking care of something reveals whether you valued having it or merely getting it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting and having are two different appetites. The first is fed by anticipation and ends at the moment of acquisition; the second is fed by attention and only begins there. How you treat a thing three months later tells you which appetite was actually driving you, and that answer travels well beyond objects.

Look around at what you acquired eagerly and have not touched since. There is no shame in it, only information about how you are being pulled. Pick one such thing this week and either give it real care or let it go to someone who will.
