A sandcastle teaches you that the tide always wins, and building is still worth it.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nothing you build on a beach survives the afternoon, and children build anyway, which is closer to wisdom than most adult planning. Permanence turns out to be a strange test to apply to anything. The castle was good because making it was good, because somebody helped, because the moat worked. Knowing the water is coming can free you to enjoy the building rather than guard it.

Do one thing this week with no plan to keep it. Cook something, draw something, get a group together for an evening that leaves no trace except that everyone was there.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you still build knowing it will not last?
