Turning your music up to drown out everyone else just damages your own ears.

Drowning someone out is an injury you do to yourself. Turn the volume past a certain point and the other voice is still there, slightly muffled, while the only thing measurably changing is your own hearing. Arguments work this way too, along with distraction, sarcasm and staying permanently busy. The noise does not remove the thing you are avoiding. It just reduces what you will be able to hear later.
Find what you have been turning the volume up against. Sit with it for ten quiet minutes this week, no music, no screen, and see whether it is actually as loud as the defense suggests.
What do you drown out at a cost to yourself?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
