Some purchases create pride on day one and inconvenience for years.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
The first week is the whole sales pitch. The next four years are the maintenance, the insurance, the specialist parts, the vague sense of obligation every time you see it sitting there unused. Pride is front-loaded and inconvenience is spread thin, which is exactly why the arithmetic is so easy to get wrong.
When you want something badly, picture year three rather than day one. Ask what it will feel like to still be responsible for it then. If that picture holds up, buy without hesitation; if it does not, you have learned something cheap.
Which proud purchase have you regretted every year since?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
