New teammates need a few weeks before they play like themselves. Give people the runway you’d want.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Someone new is spending most of their attention on not getting it wrong, which leaves little left over for being good. Learning where to stand and who to pass to burns the energy their actual ability needs. Judging them in week one tells you how nervous they are and almost nothing else. You were the same once, and somebody waited.
Hold off on your verdict about the new kid or the new person in your group project for three weeks. Meanwhile, make their job easier with the small stuff: say names, explain what everyone already assumes, pass them the ball early.
Who joined recently that you have already decided about?
