A long drive with no music teaches you to sit with your own head. That’s a skill. Practice it.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Silence is where you find out what you have been avoiding thinking about. Most people keep a soundtrack running all day, so their own thoughts never get a turn. An hour alone with them is uncomfortable for ten minutes and then useful; things sort themselves and you hear what is actually bothering you.
Try one trip with nothing on. The drive, the walk home, the bus, the mowing. Notice what comes up in the quiet part rather than reaching for a podcast to cover it. If what comes up is heavy, that is worth knowing too, and worth saying to somebody.
How comfortable are you alone with your own thoughts?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
