Ask your grandparents how they met. Their stories usually involve a lot more waiting than yours.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Meeting someone used to involve gaps: letters, a dance once a week, a phone in the hall everyone could hear. All that waiting built something, because the time between contacts is where you find out whether you actually think about a person. Nothing about modern speed is wrong, but it does hide a signal that slowness made obvious.

Start them talking and listen for the pauses rather than the romance. How long between meeting and the next meeting. What they did with the uncertainty. Then notice how little waiting there is in your own version, and whether a bit more would teach you something.
