The learner’s permit phase feels like a punishment. It’s actually the only time mistakes come with a co-pilot.

The learner’s permit phase feels like a punishment. It’s actually the only time mistakes come with a co-pilot.
STILLNESS
The permit stage feels like a long list of things you are not allowed to do yet. What it actually is, is the one stretch of driving where a mistake gets caught by somebody sitting beside you. Every skill has a version of that window, and it closes. Once you are alone with it, the errors are all yours to absorb.
While you still have someone in the passenger seat, use them for the parts that scare you rather than the parts you have down. Ask to do the merge, the parallel park, the rain. Being watched is the cheapest safety net you will get.
Who is riding along while your mistakes are still cheap?
