Moving out is how you find out which of your parents’ rules you actually agreed with.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Rules you grew up with feel like impositions until nobody is enforcing them, and then you find out which ones were actually yours. Some get dropped in a week and never missed. Others you quietly reinstate, because it turns out you like the kitchen clean before bed, and that was never only your mother’s preference. You cannot tell which is which while someone else is holding the rule.
You do not have to move out to test this. Take one household rule you resent and keep it on purpose for a week, as your own choice. Then drop a different one, and notice which absence bothers you.
Which of your parents’ rules would you keep on your own?
