Money that nobody has an opinion about gives you room to move. It is not about hiding anything, it is that funds everybody knows exist tend to get allocated in conversation, and then they are not really yours to decide about. A quiet reserve means a choice can be made before it becomes a negotiation. That is what the freedom part means.

Open somewhere separate for it and add a little from each shift, without reporting the total. Keep it legal and keep it simple. Its job is to be there when you want to do something without needing anyone’s agreement.
