When someone says no, take the first no. Don’t make them say it twice.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Making someone refuse twice is a way of telling them their first answer was not enough. You might mean it as enthusiasm, and on the other side it lands as pressure, teaching them to brace for a second round every time they decline. Taking the first no is a small act of respect that people remember. It also keeps you from finding out later that they said yes just to end it.
Catch yourself this week and stop at one ask. Say no problem and move on properly, without a sad face. The friends who do this for you are the ones you find it easy to be honest with.
