A landscape changes slowly enough that one lifetime can mistake movement for permanence.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
The hillside looks fixed and it is moving. The coast is retreating, the valley deepening, the forest advancing, all at speeds that a human life cannot register. We are structurally inclined to read anything slower than us as permanent, which makes us bad at noticing the changes that matter most.
The same applies to slow changes in your health, your relationships, your work. Compare against ten years ago rather than last week. The trend is only visible at a distance, and it is usually the trend that decides things.
