You can hold a grudge or hold your peace. Your hands aren’t big enough for both.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Holding a grievance takes continuous effort, even though it feels like something being done to you. It wants rehearsing, the evidence wants maintaining, and the whole file gets carried into rooms the other person is not even in. That effort comes out of the same supply as everything else, which is why a long grudge and a settled week rarely manage to coexist.
Pick one old one and try setting it down for a week. That is not forgiving and needs telling nobody. Just stop rehearsing it, and when it comes back, let it go past.
What would you have to put down to feel settled?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
