Independence isn’t loud. It’s quietly not needing to be rescued from your own choices.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Self reliance is mostly undramatic, and it shows up as an absence: nobody had to step in. Not needing rescue means the choice got made with the consequences already in view, so when one turns up, you handle it rather than make a call. The loud version, announcements about not needing anybody, tends to be the opposite, since the real thing has nothing to prove to an audience.

Test it on something small. Before a decision, name what could go wrong and what you would do about it. Then make the choice and carry the result yourself, quietly.
