A work can be technically perfect and emotionally empty.

Skill and feeling are separate axes. Something can be flawlessly executed and leave you nothing, while a rougher thing made by someone who meant it stays with you for years. Technique is what allows a feeling to be transmitted; it is not the feeling, and it cannot substitute for its absence.

If what you make is competent and inert, the problem is usually not more craft. Ask what you were actually trying to say and whether you let any of it in. The risky part is generally the part that makes it live.
