Announcing a plan early invites commentary before the plan is strong enough to survive it. Doubts from people who love you arrive as questions, and at the very beginning a few questions can be enough to put you off altogether. Keeping it quiet is not dishonesty, only timing. Tell people once the thing can take a knock.

Choose one goal and decide not to mention it for a month. Do the work meanwhile, so that when you do tell somebody there is already something to point at.
