Some people look confident because they’re scared of being seen as scared.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A lot of what looks like confidence is armour. The loud certainty, the refusal to ask a question, the person who will not admit they do not know something: underneath is usually somebody who has decided that looking frightened is the worst available outcome. The performance costs them a great deal and fools nobody who is paying attention.
Try reading it as fear rather than as arrogance for a week. It changes how you answer, and stops you competing with somebody who is already struggling. Check too whether your own certainty is doing that job, since the way out is to say once that you do not know.
Whose confidence might be covering fear you never guessed at?
