Notice who always cleans up after the party. Then help them.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

In every group there is somebody who stays behind and does the unglamorous part, usually without being asked and usually while everybody else is leaving. The work stays invisible precisely because they are reliable about it. Noticing is the first half of the thought and on its own it is only observation. The second half is what makes you useful.

Be the second person this week. Stay back ten minutes at the end of something and do the stacking, the sweeping, the carrying, without announcing it. At home, do the job nobody assigned you, and notice how the room feels towards you afterwards.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who cleans up after everyone, and will you help them?
