Scouts watch what a player does when the ball is on the other side of the field. Character lives off camera.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

What somebody does once the action has moved elsewhere tells you more than anything they do in the spotlight. Anyone can look committed with the ball at their feet; the real information is whether they keep working when stopping would cost them nothing. The same test reads friendships and jobs, where most of the time is off camera anyway.

Pick one teammate or coworker and watch them through the dead stretches this week. Then watch yourself the same way, honestly. Decide what you want your off-camera version to look like and start doing that on purpose.
