Shooting free throws alone in the driveway at dusk isn’t just practice. It’s where a lot of thinking gets done.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Repetition your body already knows frees your head to work on something else. Standing at the same spot taking the same shot, your mind drifts to the argument or the decision you have been putting off, and it drifts there calmly. The practice is real, and so is the sorting happening alongside it. That is part of why a driveway feels different from a drill with somebody shouting.
Keep one of those sessions this week with no music and nobody counting. Let your thoughts wander instead of steering them. If something useful surfaces, write it down before you go inside.
Which repetitive thing do you do that doubles as thinking time?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
