Before you chase something, ask yourself alone at night why you want it. The real answer is usually quieter.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

The loud reason is usually the one built for other people to hear. Ambition sounds better in a sentence, while the plainer version underneath, wanting to be respected, wanting your family to relax, tends to be quieter and more human. Hearing it does not disqualify the goal. It means you know what you are chasing, so you can tell when you have got it.

Before the next big push, sit with it once when the house is quiet and wait past the first answer. Write the second one down. Then check whether your plan would actually deliver that, because plenty of plans serve the loud reason only.
