An hour alone outside, away from all screens, shrinks a lot of problems back to their actual size.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Problems grow in small spaces. Indoors with a screen, a worry has nothing to be compared against, so it expands until it fills the room; outside it has to share the space with weather, distance and other people’s lives. The problem has not changed size, your sense of scale has come back. That sense of scale is what tells you which things actually need your week.

Take an hour outside with your phone away, not for exercise and not going anywhere in particular. Think about the thing on purpose for the first ten minutes, then let it go and see how it looks on the way home.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which worry would shrink if you walked outside without your phone?
