You’re allowed to like things nobody else in your friend group likes. That’s not weird, that’s you.

Shared taste is a convenient way to belong, and it quietly turns into a rule nobody voted on. Liking something outside the group’s range feels risky because it is a small act of separateness, and groups notice separateness faster than anything else. Taste is not a team sport, though, and a friendship that cannot survive one unfashionable interest was never strong.

Stop hiding one of yours this term. Mention it, play it, wear it, go to the thing on your own. Expect a joke and let the joke happen. You will also learn which friends get curious rather than dismissive, which is worth knowing.
