A rainy Saturday with no plans is a test. Can you enjoy your own company without something to do?
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
An empty day takes away the scaffolding that usually holds your attention up, and what is left is whatever you brought. The restlessness that follows is not boredom exactly. It is closer to withdrawal, your attention looking around for the input it is used to. It passes, often within an hour.
Next time a day opens up with nothing in it, resist filling the first hour. Make a sandwich, look out a window, start something badly. The point is finding out that you are decent company, which you cannot learn while distracted.
Can you enjoy a free Saturday with nothing scheduled in it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
