Tell your life story to yourself on a long walk. You’ll notice which parts you skip.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Any story you tell has edits in it, and the edits are more interesting than the plot. When you narrate your own years, you will find yourself jumping over certain months without meaning to. Those gaps are usually where something is unresolved, or where the version you have settled on does not fit.
Try it on a long walk, out loud or in your head, from as early as you remember. Notice the jumps without prying them open, since some of them are not ready. Knowing where they are tells you what is still waiting.
