A packed party can be the loneliest room you’re in all month, and an empty porch the least.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Loneliness does not track headcount, it tracks whether anything real is being exchanged. Thirty people shouting over music can leave you with nothing, while sitting outside with one person can leave you full. The crowded version is worse because you expected it to work and it did not.
Start noticing where you actually feel met rather than where you are supposed to. Keep a mental short list of the two or three settings that do it for you. Then stop treating the big noisy option as the default, and stop assuming you are broken when it fails.
Where were you loneliest lately, and how many people were there?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
