The first week at a new job or school, resist the urge to be who you think they want. Let them meet you.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Whoever you decide to be in week one becomes the person you have to keep being. If you arrive as the loudest, the most agreeable, or the one who never minds covering a shift, that is now the contract, and renegotiating it later is harder than setting it honestly.
Aim for accurate rather than impressive in the first few days. Answer questions plainly, say what you can and cannot do, let your actual sense of humour show up at its own pace. You will be less memorable in week one and much more comfortable by week six.
In a new place, do you perform or let people meet you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
