Strategy is just asking “and then what?” one more time than everyone else.

Most people think one step out, which is enough to make the next move and not enough to see where that move lands them. The whole advantage is one additional link in the chain. It is not cleverness and it does not take special insight, only the patience to keep asking after everyone else has stopped.

Take the thing you are planning and push it one step past where your thinking usually ends. Say what happens after that. If you cannot answer, you have found the part worth preparing, which is already more than most people in the room will have done.
