Never argue with someone who’s performing for an audience. You’re just their content.

LEADERSHIP
When somebody is playing to a crowd, your words are not being considered, they are being used. Whatever you say becomes material for the next line, and the better your point the more useful it is to them. The exchange is not a disagreement at all, it is a show, and you have been cast.
Check who else is watching before you respond. If the answer is an audience, say nothing or say one flat sentence and leave it there. If you genuinely want to settle something with that person, do it later, in private, where there is nothing to play to.
Who argues with you mainly for the people watching?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
