Whoever loses the most from a change will argue hardest against it. Listen, then check what they stand to lose.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Resistance usually has arithmetic behind it. Whoever fights a change hardest is often protecting something specific: hours, status, a routine that suits them, a skill they are known for. Their stated reasons can be genuine and still not be the whole reason. Knowing what the loss is tells you whether to answer the argument or deal with the cost.

When somebody blocks an idea of yours, work out quietly what it would cost them if it went ahead. Then ask what their worry is and listen without rebutting. Protect the thing they are guarding and the objection often disappears by itself.
