Being humble while you’re winning is strategy too. People remember who gloated.

Winning is temporary and your reputation is not. Everybody present quietly notes how you behave while you are ahead, because that is the only honest preview of how you would treat them. Gloating converts a result into a grudge, and grudges get repaid at moments you will not see coming. Modesty while winning costs nothing and buys years.

After the next thing that goes your way, say one genuine sentence about somebody who lost or helped, then stop talking about the result. If you want to celebrate loudly, do it with the people who were in it with you.
