Navigators fix a position with three bearings, not one. One source isn’t the truth.

One bearing puts you somewhere on a line, which is not a position. Three crossing lines put you in a small triangle, and the size of that triangle tells you how much to trust it. The method matters more than the instruments: a single confident source is always a line, however certain it sounds.
For anything that matters, a claim about a college, a job, a person, get it from three places before you treat it as settled. Notice when all three trace back to the same original. That is one bearing wearing three coats.
