Your first manager will forget your name. You’ll never forget how they trained you. Remember that when you’re the trainer.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Training sticks in a way names do not. Whoever shows you how to close out a register or stack a cooler is handing you a small template for how work feels, and for whether a new person is worth ten patient minutes. Years later you keep the lesson and lose the face attached to it. That gap means you will teach people without ever knowing you taught them.
Next time somebody newer than you is struggling on a shift, slow down for one task instead of taking it over. Explain why it is done that way, not only how.
Who taught you how to work, and what stuck?
