Years accumulate whether or not you examine them. Plenty of people repeat the same mistake for decades and call the total experience, because nothing in the passage of time forces you to look at what happened. Reflection is the step that turns events into knowledge, and it is entirely optional.

Set aside a little time to look back on purpose. What kept recurring, what you would do differently, what you keep learning and forgetting. An hour once a month is enough, and it is the difference between having lived a while and having learned something from it.
