Write down grandma’s recipe while she’s cooking it. “A pinch of this” disappears when the person who knew the pinch does.

Some knowledge only exists in motion. A pinch is not a measurement, it is a decision made by a hand that has made it ten thousand times, and it cannot be dictated from a chair afterwards. Watching while it happens is the only way to catch what the card leaves out.

Next time somebody in your family cooks the thing they are known for, stand in the kitchen with your phone and film the hands. Ask how they know when it is right. Then make it yourself once while they are still there to tell you what you got wrong.
