STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A record stands until it is replaced, which is usually a matter of months. How you behaved is far less perishable. The younger players who watched you handle a bad call or a benching will still be doing some version of it long after nobody remembers the standings. Imitation runs on conduct rather than statistics.

Assume somebody younger is watching this week, because somebody is. Handle one bad moment the way you would want copied: a loss, a correction from a coach, a teammate’s mistake. That is the part with a long tail on it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are younger teammates copying from how you behave?
