Your piano teacher spent a few hundred hours of their life on you. The music you play at forty is partly theirs.

Teaching is a transfer of somebody’s actual lifetime. Every lesson came out of hours that person does not get back, and the result keeps running in you long after you have lost contact with them. Most of what you can do with your hands was partly installed by somebody else.

Work out who taught you the thing you are best at and tell them it stuck. If that is not possible, teach a piece of it to somebody else instead.
