The way you leave a job is the last line of your story there. Write it clean.

Endings get remembered out of all proportion to what came before them. Months of good work can be painted over by two careless weeks at the finish, because the exit is the freshest part of anybody’s memory of you. It is also the cheapest part to get right.

When you quit anything, give proper notice, finish what you started and say thank you on the way out. Small towns and small industries have long memories and short lists of names.
